Dear JP Families,
Happy February! February is a special month as we celebrate love, kindness, and friendship, and it is also a time when we proudly honor Black History Month. Throughout this month, we recognize and celebrate Black culture, history, and the countless contributions Black leaders, innovators, artists, and everyday heroes have made—and continue to make—to our nation. At John Paterson, we are committed to fostering kindness, respect, and appreciation for all cultures, and we look forward to meaningful learning and celebrations throughout the month.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Our school community thrives because of the care, patience, and teamwork we share—especially when it comes to keeping our students safe. I’d like to take a moment to share a few important reminders and updates as we move through these busy winter mornings.
Morning Drop-Off Safety
We kindly ask all families to please slow down during morning arrival. Many of our families park along the street and walk their children to the entrance, and we also have students who walk to school independently. Slowing down and staying alert helps ensure that every child arrives safely. Student safety is, and will always be, our top priority.
Snow Mound Awareness
With the recent weather, large snow mounds remain around our school grounds and roadways—and it looks like they won’t be melting anytime soon. These piles can limit visibility, so we ask families, students, and staff to be especially cautious when walking or driving near them. Staying aware and looking carefully before moving around them will help prevent accidents.
Morning Arrival Procedures
Mornings can be very busy, so please be sure to give yourself ample time when arriving at school. To keep the flow of cars moving smoothly, we ask that families do not stop or park in the drop-off line to walk their child into the building.
If you need to walk your child to the sidewalk at the main entrance, please park on Halleran Street and walk your child to the entrance from there. For safety and traffic flow reasons, please do not stop your vehicle and walk your child to the Pre-K entrance, as this causes backups and may result in students arriving late.
Mr. Tolisano is outside every morning supporting arrival and helping ensure a safe and efficient process. We truly appreciate your cooperation when following his directions. If needed, he will assist you with where to park, and if a vehicle is stopped in the middle of the line, he may ask that it be moved so traffic can continue to flow safely.
