Principal's Corner

Welcome to John Paterson Elementary School! It is a true privilege to partner with our families and community as we nurture and educate nearly 400 dynamic learners from preschool through fourth grade. My name is Matt Correia and I am honored to serve as your building principal and work in partnership with an incredible group of students, staff, families, and the greater Newington Community.

At John Paterson, we believe that every student deserves a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where they can thrive. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to deliver exceptional instructional practices, tailoring learning experiences to meet the unique needs of every child. We are deeply committed to ensuring our students remain actively engaged in their learning and feel a strong sense of connection within our classrooms and broader school community.

Above all else, the physical and emotional safety of your children is my top priority. Every decision we make as a school family is grounded in providing a secure, nurturing environment where students feel safe to learn, grow, and express themselves each day.

Our core focus is creating meaningful educational experiences where students connect deeply with their work, learn from the lived experiences of others, and celebrate the unique strengths and perspectives each person brings to our school.

We are also incredibly fortunate to have an active and dedicated PTO. The PTO is a committed group of individuals who create wonderful opportunities for our students and families, bringing our community together and offering experiences that encourage gathering, connection, and celebration throughout the school year.
