We have had a wonderful start to the new school year! The halls of John Paterson Elementary School are once again filled with energy, laughter, and the excitement of learning. The first two days of school have been a success and it has been a joy seeing our returning students welcome old friends while watching our new students make positive connections.
Highlights from Thursday and Friday:
-
Visiting Classrooms & Connecting with Students: One of the highlights of my week was visiting each classroom to introduce myself to the students. I shared with them that my main job is to keep them safe every day and to ensure they have a wonderful school day. I also reminded everyone that Paterson is their home and it is so important for each child to know that they belong here
-
Arrival & Dismissal: Thank you to all our families for your patience and support during pick-up and drop-off lines. Traffic flows will ease each day as everyone gets back into the routine. As a reminder, if you are picking your child up from school, please bring your license or ID card with you as it will be required until our staff becomes familiar with you and your family
-
Building Classroom Communities: Teachers spent these initial days focusing on community-building activities, establishing classroom expectations, and helping students get comfortable in their new learning spaces
-
Learning & Exploring: From learning classroom routines to exploring the lunchroom and playground, our students have quickly demonstrated their understanding of our Paterson Pride expectations
Important Reminders:
-
PowerSchool Contact Info: If you have not done so already, please log into PowerSchool to ensure your contact details are up to date. If you need any assistance, feel free to contact our main office
-
Early Office Pickups: If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please arrive by 3:10pm. After 3:10pm our main office staff focuses entirely on preparing for and executing a safe and smooth afternoon dismissal process
-
Drop-off Loop Protocols: For our new families, please note that our morning drop-off is a "drop and go" process. Students should exit their vehicles on the right passenger side and parents/guardians should remain inside their vehicles to keep traffic moving efficiently and safely
-
Chromebooks and Chargers: This year, your child’s Chromebook and charger will remain at school each day as they are not required or needed for use at home. If you haven’t done so already, please send in your child’s Chromebooks and charger with them to school
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and for trusting us with your children. We are looking forward to a safe, inspiring, and rewarding school year together!
Warmly,
Dr. Correia
Principal
