Dear Paterson Families,
As we welcomed the new month, our students focused on what it means to be a supportive friend and classmate. Throughout the week, students practiced social-emotional strategies across all settings, from their classrooms to the lunchroom and playground. Morning announcements highlighted actionable ideas including inviting a peer who is sitting alone to join a game at recess, offering words of encouragement during challenging group activities, actively listening when someone else is speaking, and sharing space during lunch. We are so proud of the kindness, inclusion, and positive community spirit our students demonstrated all week!
I am also thrilled to share with you that our very own Kim DePaolis was selected as a finalist for CT State Teacher of the Year! Yesterday, the state committee visited Paterson to see Kim’s incredible work in action and learn more about her leadership and accomplishments within our school district and community. The entire Paterson community is immensely proud of everything Kim has done and continues to do for our students and families in Newington!
Proud Moments:
- Preschool students in Mrs. Hinton's and Mrs. Klimas' classrooms had a busy week practicing active listening, following step-by-step directions, and building essential classroom habits. In Mrs. Hinton's class, students applied these skills while working on a fun apple-creation activity. Meanwhile, Mrs. Klimas’ class welcomed a special visit from Mrs. Burba, who shared an engaging social story to teach and reinforce appropriate classroom behaviors.
- Our fourth-grade students were seen at recess practicing what it means to be great friends and supportive classmates. Demonstrating true inclusion, they welcomed peers to join in on games and activities, helping to build a strong sense of community across the entire grade level. Thank you to our fourth graders for working so hard on our week-long school goal!
Have a wonderful weekend! Take time to enjoy the crisp start of the fall season and make some special memories with your kids and families. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday!
Warmly,
Dr. Correia
